On the Bikes At Last

Allie and and I are preoccupied. Allie is a bit quiter and withdrawn, more than her usual, already quiet self.  We have a serious health issue with family back home.  It may cause us to end the trip prematurely .   But it is important not to let sadness make it impossible to love your life.  I'm better at this then Allie so I'm sticking close.

"The laziness of the unloved life is its worst feature."

With that in mind the gals ate a healthy, well big maybe, breakfast at the Waffle House and hit the road with the confidence of seasons cyclists. About an hour and a half later they were scratching there heads as the realized they were within a few hundred meters of where we started, having inadvertently  ridden a 25 klm loop. We started out again paying more attention to navigation.

This is our route although we did not show the loop at the start. Distance for the day was about 100 klm.
Most of the ride was along the Virginia Capital Trail, a paved bike route that took us all the way to Jamestown .   Lots of history here, captured in trail side plaques. Most to do with the civil war, famous plantations and the homes of many presidents. We had some nice chats, particularly with Ken. He started out in Seattle in the spring, went across the continent on the Canadian side all the way to Newfoundland and is now heading to Florida.

We're off!
Nice matching paniers .
Lunch at Charles City.
We watched a guy catch a monster cat fish!  Allie was excited.
Virginia Capital Trail.

We took a ferry across the James River. Saw a bald eagle on the way.
There was a school  bus on the ferry bursting with football players and cheer leaders.
